It started with a promise ... In 2013, the Library approached the community for a millage increase to inhance facilities and make timely improvements. The community responded with a resounding, YES! Since then, we have upgraded our HVAC system, replaced our front doors and renovated the public restrooms. We prepared for the final phase, the expansion of our children's area and the additiona of a second meeting room.
The 2,800 square foot addition will double the size of our current chilfren's area. It will include additional space for materials, a designated tween area to serve those who are not quite teens and have aged-out of the area for the littles, quiet study and seating areas for children and their caregivers, anadditional programming room and two restrooms. The existing children's area will be renovated, as well.
The milestone is the result of years of hard work and advocacy by many individuals, including former director, Doreen Hannon, past and current Board of Trustees, committee members, library staff, Friends of our library, Friends Club members, volunteer shelvers, bookroom and gardeners, and to the residents and local businesses of Salem Township, City of South Lyon and Green Oak Township. We thank you.
We view the library as a connector to information and as a community hub, designed to carry out our library's mission to ecucate, enrich and empower the community. Everything we do, we do to make life better. We take our charge very seriously, to help our community move forward, to make us all better and brighter, and to improve our quality of life. We are very garteful for our community who understands the value of libraries and support what libraries bring to the community.
So let's celebrate our library, our community space that makes us better and helps build a better communiyt. Be sure to stop by and take a look!
